KVS & NVS Exam Pattern Overview 2026
For the 2026 recruitment cycle, the exam pattern has been unified for all Teaching and Non-Teaching posts. The selection process is divided into two stages: Tier-1 (General Aptitude) and Tier-2 (Subject Knowledge).
Crucially, the exam will be conducted in OMR Mode (Pen and Paper), not online.
1. Tier-1 Exam Pattern (Common for All Posts)
This is a screening stage conducted for 300 Marks. The paper is objective-type with a heavy penalty for wrong answers.
- Mode: OMR (Offline)
- Duration: 2 Hours (120 Minutes)
- Marking Scheme: +3 for correct answer, -1 for wrong answer.
- Total Questions: 100
| Subject | Number of Questions | Total Marks |
|---|---|---|
| Part 1 - General Reasoning | 20 | 60 |
| Part 2 - Numeric Ability | 20 | 60 |
| Part 3 - Basic Computer Literacy | 20 | 60 |
| Part 4 - General Knowledge | 20 | 60 |
| Part 5 - English Language | 10 | 30 |
| Part 6 - Modern Indian Language | 10 | 30 |
| Total | 100 | 300 |
High Negative Marking: Tier-1 has a significant negative marking of -1 mark per wrong answer. Accuracy is critical here; guessing can severely damage your score.
2. Tier-2 Exam Pattern (Subject Knowledge Test)
Candidates who qualify Tier-1 will proceed to Tier-2. This tests the specific domain knowledge required for the post (e.g., Pedagogy for Teachers, Office Rules for JSA).
- Mode: Pen-and-Paper OMR
- Duration: 2.5 Hours (150 Minutes)
- Marking Scheme: +1 for correct answer, -0.25 for wrong answer.
| Question Type | Number of Questions | Total Marks |
|---|---|---|
| Objective | 60 | 60 |
| Descriptive | 10 | 40 |
| Total | 70 | 100 |
Language: The Tier-2 exam is available in Hindi and English, except for specific language teacher posts (like PGT Hindi/English) where the medium will be the respective language.
